What Are the Must-Have Gifts This Holiday Season? ShopSavvy's Millions of Mobile Users Vote with Their Scans
(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Users of Big in Japan’s popular barcode-scanning phone app have scanned the video game “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” more than any other item this month.
Dallas (Vocus) -- With Black Friday approaching, the millions of users of ShopSavvy, Big in Japan’s breakthrough comparison-shopping app for the iPhoneand Android phones such as the Droid and Hero, are scanning product barcodes to compare prices at a fast and furious pace – and data from these scans provides evidence of the hot gifts this holiday season. In the period from Nov. 1-20, ShopSavvy users scanned 24.7 million products to find the best price, the company said.
“ShopSavvy users really showed up to shop last week. Best Buy had to increase the capacity of their API to accommodate the millions of scans our users have made over just the last few days,” said Alexander Muse, co-founder of Big in Japan. “Foot traffic is increasing significantly at retailers like Best Buy, GameStop and particularly Toys “R” Us – where scans are up 40 percent in November compared to October. At GameStop, ShopSavvy users scanned 29 products per store visit in November, compared to nine products per visit in October. And at Fry’s Electronics, time spent in the store per visit has more than doubled since last month as ShopSavvy users search for the perfect holiday gifts.”
“And this is only a hint of what’s to come. We expect ShopSavvy usage numbers to soar beginning on Black Friday.”
Muse said that from Nov. 1-20, “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” was the most-scanned product by ShopSavvy users. About half of all ShopSavvy scans are of consumer electronics items, and another 25 percent are of books, DVDs and music.
