Western Automotive Journalists Presents "Silicon Valley Reinvents the Wheel" on Oct. 5, 2015


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at the Silicon Valley Reinvents the Wheel, Western Automotive Journalists presents a full-day conference at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, diving into the rapidly evolving world of technology in the automobile, including:

  • Covering start-ups eager to integrate their new tech into the car,
  • The prospect of zero emission and autonomous vehicles,
  • Cybersecurity threats, and
  • A look at the "Road to Future Cars" from the heads of Silicon Valley automobile labs tasked with determining where those roads will lead.

Schedule for the day

Silicon Valley Reinvents the Wheel will begin at 10 a.m. in Hahn Auditorium on the second floor of Computer History Museum.

Emcee of the event will be Brian Cooley of CNET, the world's leader in tech news.

Veerender Kaul of Frost & Sullivan will present research on where automotive tech is heading.

Five tech startups selected by the Autotech Council will give rapid fire introductions to their technology break-throughs.

Automotive leaders from General Motors, Kia and Jaguar Land Rover revealing the latest in automotive connectivity and infotainment.

Executives from Boe, Tectonic and Alpine discussing new sound technology.



During a two-hour lunch break vehicles and displays in the parking lot and inside the Museum will give attendees a hands-on experience with new technology. Chevrolet, Ford, Jeep, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Fiat, Kia, Toyota, Tesla, Land Rover, Cadillac, Lincoln and others will have vehicles on display. Demos will cover connectivity, sound technology and zero emission vehicles.

Back in Hahn Auditorium in the afternoon speakers will discuss:


Zero Emission Vehicles and Technology: Dr. Alberto Ayala of the California Air Resources Board and Dr. Mort Grosser, who has served on the board of several technology start-ups.

Autonomous Vehicles: Dave Ferguson of Google will give an update of his company's automotive activities.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics: Dr. Chris Gerdes and Dr. Jerry Kaplan of Stanford University and Dr. Shannon Vallor of Santa Clara University will discuss the challenges of AI as it takes a more significant role in the automotive world.

Cybersecurity: Lawyer James Pooley will review threats that were unthinkable only a few years ago.

Designing Autonomous Vehicles: Antonio Borja and Tom Matano from the Academy of Art University will dive into the new world of designing a car that may not have a driver.

Deep Learning: Danny Shapiro from Nvidia will discuss the advances being made with computers that can learn and solve perceptual problems, a key to autonomous driving and safety advances.

Road to Future Cars: Four speakers from Honda, General Motors, Nissan and Delphi will lay out their view of the paths to future automobiles.

A Look into the Future: Futurist Eric Larsen from Mercedes-Benz Research & Development will share his view of future automobiles based on his research.
