W &W Communications announce Taos Series ASICs
(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
W&W Communications Inc (W&W), a California-based semi-conductor
company, announced today (20 June) the Taos series of ASICs
(Application Specific Integrated Circuits). The three chips in the
series (codenamed WW108, WW602 and WW508) are single chip H.264 video
codecs using the firm's patent-pending Super Low Latency Technology
(SLL Technology), with single stream HD processing at below 1ms latency
for encode/decode operations.
The WW108 is designed to be used in video conferencing, surveillance or
media server applications. It can handle a single 1080p60 stream, or
four 720p30 streams.
The WW602 is optimised for single stream HDMI applications, such as
games console, laptops and settop boxes.
For high channel-density video surveillance DVR and video server
applications at D1 resolutions, the WW508 can handle 4 D1 (or 16 CIF)
encodes at 30fps in codec mode, while at the same time decoding 4 D1
(or 16 CIF) streams at the same frame rate.
All three chips are aimed at the wireless HDMI, video surveillance and
video conferencing markets, where the ability to cope with high data
transfer rates with minimal processing time is a distinct advantage.
