Volvo Cars to lay off nearly 3,000 in Sweden

(Nordic Business Report Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Swedish car maker Volvo Car Corporation (Volvo Cars), part of Ford
Motor Company (NYSE:F), announced on Wednesday (8 October) that it will
reduce its personnel in Sweden by a further 2,700 as part of its cost
reduction measures.

Volvo Cars in June already announced that it was shedding 1,200 jobs in
Gothenburg and Olofstrom in Sweden.

The new cuts will affect 1,650 workers and 580 white-collar employees
in Gothenburg, 350 workers and 60 white-collar employees in Olofstrom,
as well as 60 white-collar employees in Skovde and Floby.

The new job cuts will also hit some 600 employees outside Sweden, as
well as 700 consultants.

Volvo Cars has some 24,500 employees, of which 17,600 in Sweden.
