Are you in the market for the latest in VoIP gadgets? Consider yourself lucky, indeed. The Sony Ericsson technology cluster just introduced the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Headset HBH-608. The new headset is compatible with the Sony VAIO BX series, the company's suite of recently introduced VAIO Professional notebooks.
The HBH-608's integrated bluetooth wireless technology allows users to talk hands-free. The technology connects the notebook with the headset, enabling users to talk via voice over IP (VoIP). This feature eliminates the need for wiring and other traditional telephone equipment.
According to the companies' news announcement, "the acoustic construction of speaker and microphone in the HBH-608 ensures high quality sound, whether it is used with a computer or a mobile phone." The device is small, lightweight, and it extends talk time to up to 10 hours.
"The knowledge from two strong brands in the communications industry comes together in this solution," says Ulf Persson, corporate vice president for Sony Ericsson Accessories. "We believe that our joint experience benefits the user, making telecommunication as smooth as possible."
HBH-608's wireless connection enables users to roam around at a distance of up to 10 meters. The headset can also be used with ordinary Bluetooth mobile phones.
This is Sony's second IP-based product/service announcement this summer. The electronics manufacturer made news back in June when it joined GlowPoint to do a simulcast of the NBA draft for ESPN viewers. The partnership allowed the television audience to view coach and player interviews, as well as sportscasters' commentary in multiple locations around the U.S. simultaneously.
The IP-based broadcasting solution combined Sony's IPELA videoconferencing systems and GlowPoint’s IP-based video communication services to capture and air real-time interviews. NBA team representatives located at remote locations throughout the country connected to the GlowPoint network via Sony PCS-1 and PCS-G70 video communication systems located at the cable operator’s Bristol, Conn. studios.
