VoIP Chips from Surf Selected for Auerswald IP PBX Solution

Surf announced that Auerswald, a well-known German producer and supplier of PBX (News - Alert) solutions, has selected Surfs DSP chip-level multimedia processing solution, the Surf DSP-24, for inclusion in its COMmander® Basic.2 IP PBX solution.

The COMmander® Basic.2 is a professional PBX system that provides up to 48 extension ports and internet telephony (VoIP). It supports primary rate (PRI) trunk line connections or system telephones with 2-wire or 4-wire connections, and includes functions such as LAN-TAPI or project related accounting of calls. Surfs DSP multimedia processing platform provides the processing power and transcoding capabilities to support converged networks in this state-of-the-art IP PBX solution. The COMmander® Basic.2 is scheduled for General Availability in Q2, 2008.

The Surf DSP-24, based on Texas Instruments (News - Alert) C64x DSP generation, is a media processing solution offering simultaneous support for multimedia convergenceVoice, Video, and Data (Fax/Modem) all running on a single DSP. Equipment manufacturers who develop Media Gateways, IP PBX, CTI products, and other media-over-packet applications find this solution ideal and optimized for their requirements, as well as quick and easy to integrate into their hardware designs. All Surf products support an easy migration path from voice to video, since the same API supports all media types.

Auerswald selected Surfs technology for its wide range of continually evolving media processing capabilities, which allows us to offer customers flexible solutions that match their current and future density and media requirements, said Oliver Martin, Senior Product Manager, Auerswald. In addition, three Surf DSPs do the work of nine DSPs from our previous chip vendor, which makes our solutions even more cost-effective than before.

We are pleased to be selected as Auerwalds DSP supplier, said Avi Harush, Surfs Sales Director, EMEA. This project demonstrates how Surf's continuing R&D efforts produce rich multimedia processing packages that meet our customers requirements for cost-effective, scalable and comprehensive solutions.
