Vivendi likely to buy out Canal+, SFR

(M&A Navigator Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) French media and telecomms group Vivendi (EPA:VIV) is interested in buying out its subsidiaries, TV channel Canal+ and mobile operator SFR, board chairman Jean-Bernard Levy told Reuters yesterday.

Vivendi controls 56% in SFR and 65% in Canal+ France.

The company confirmed it is willing to acquire the stake of Vodafone (LON:VOD) in SFR and the 5.1% stake of TV broadcaster M6 (EPA:MMT) in Canal+ for which it has already made an offer in November.

French conglomerate Lagardere (EPA:MMB), which holds 20% in the TV channel, recently said it may offload its stake to Vivendi this year.
