Vitesse and RubyTech Fast Track Gigabit WLAN Speeds For Mobilized Enterprises; Industry's First 2.5G Managed Ethernet Switch Reference Design For 802.11ac Applications, Enables 50% Lower Power/Costs Than 10G

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CTIA SUPER MOBILITY WEEK - LAS VEGAS - According to Forrester Research, nearly two-thirds of all data traffic will move from wired to wireless connections by 2017. BYOD and user demand in the Enterprise are driving the next wave of network upgrades to deliver on the Gigabit capabilities of 802.11ac. To enable these WLAN upgrades within existing infrastructures, Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Nasdaq: VTSS), a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier, Enterprise and Internet of Things (IoT) networks, and RubyTech announced availability of the industry's first 2.5G managed switch reference design for 802.11ac Gigabit Wi-Fi applications.

Based on Vitesse's recently introduced SparX-IV(TM) Ethernet switch family (VSC7442, VSC7444 and VSC7448) and software SDK, the 2.5G turnkey reference design is ideal for Wave 2 802.11ac deployments, which can support access point uplink speeds up to 1.3G into the Enterprise LAN. Upgrading 802.11ac access aggregation to 2.5G is the optimal choice for Enterprises, delivering up to 50% lower power and cost versus 10G.

"2.5G is really about giving Enterprises flexibility and finding the easiest and most cost-effective way to connect the new .11ac access points within current infrastructures using Cat5 cable," said Larry O'Connell, product marketing director for Vitesse. "Access equipment with 10G uplinks is a clear cost and power overkill. Vitesse and RubyTech's joint 2.5G reference design provides Enterprises a painless migration path to fully benefit from .11ac's Gigabit speeds, while avoiding a complete network upgrade." Vitesse at CTIA Super Mobility Week Vitesse will showcase its 2.5G managed switch reference design and latest IC solutions and technologies for base station and mobile backhaul applications in Booth #4163, Mobile Backhaul Pavilion at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Las Vegas from September 9-11, 2014. CTO Martin Nuss will speak at 4G World, co-located with CTIA Super Mobility Week, in the Enterprise Mobility track, "4G Mobile Network and Device Security" session on September 11 at 2:15 pm local time.
