Virtual Students Plug In and Power Up For New School Year

Students at California Virtual Academy @ Sutter (CAVA @ Sutter), an accredited, full-time, online public charter school, will begin their 2016-2017 school year on August 29 as the program marks its 14th year of operation in the state.

CAVA @ Sutter is open to students in grades K through 12. Families enroll in CAVA @ Sutter for a wide variety of reasons. Some students are advanced learners, motivated to increase their knowledge beyond the basic course offerings, while others are athletes or performers looking to balance a full schedule. Innovative curriculum and technology combined with a strong partnership between families and teachers makes it possible to focus on each student's unique academic needs, and gives a growing number of Sacramento-area students a powerful educational option to reach their true potential.

"The students that enroll in CAVA @ Sutter seek a personalized learning experience that enables them to excel and explore their own learning style," said Kimberly Odom, Director of Special Education. "Each student receives quality instruction and support in a one-on-one setting as they grow throughout the year."

CAVA @ Sutter students attend school from the safety of home, where they can focus on their studies without distractions or peer pressure and with the help of state-certified teachers and caring counselors. The daily structure and lessons are provided through a stimulating online school environment where students are able to interact with their peers.

Students follow an academic prgram that includes engaging web-based lessons along with age-appropriate instructional materials - books, videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and resources - which are shipped directly to each student's home. (Common household items and office supplies such as printer ink and paper are not provided.) The program offers opportunities for advancement in STEM education. College- or career-minded students can choose from a broad range of profession-focused courses in order to gain a competitive edge for the future.

CAVA @ Sutter teachers are state-credentialed and are prepared to provide instruction, guidance and support through an online setting. Teachers interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings.
