Virtual Physician's Network Launches Mobile Application for Surgeons To Drive Revenue while Saving Time and Money

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Virtual Physician's Network (VPN) of Orlando, FL launched a mobile application for surgeons at the annual meeting of the North American Spine Society (NASS) in Dallas, TX last month.

VPN provides surgeons with a single-touch solution to address many complex issues. The free VPN application provides a single, accelerated web and mobile interface to access and manage everything required from case booking amongst several vendors to education and device information on demand and patient outcome tracking.

Through VPN, surgeons will have immediate access to patient outcomes; device and drug data from suppliers; live surgery and procedural video and web cast channels; access to CMEs, and medical industry and association events, all within a fully HIPPA-compliant application.

"The benefits of VPN's comprehensive real-time case booking, communications, information, and education platform were enthusiastically received by both surgeons and medical vendors at the NASS event," said George England, President and Chief Operating Officer.

"The Virtual Physicians Network mobile app was designed specifically for surgeons to improve clinical outcomes, save time and money, and drive revenue. We listened to surgeons needs and know what they want," said Mr. England.

"VPN is feature rich with education and product information, but the aspect that surgeons at the NASS event were really excited about was the potential for real time scheduling, communication, and accountability from their practice to the many vendors who supply devices, services, and equipment for surgeries," said Mr. England.

Surgeons are lacking a unified real-time system that connects the surgical team and the multiple suppliers involved in complex surgeries. Many surgical teams are forced to make do with ad hoc communications via phone and fax.

Using the VPN app, a surgeon can book a case within seconds. The application automatically populates the screen with the surgeon's preferred vendors and equipment for the specified surgery. The surgeon can modify or accept these options, and the application will automatically notify the appropriate vendors to confirm the availability of their products for the surgery.

"One of our goals is to improve patient outcomes and surgical efficiency through accountability," said Mr. England. "At any point in time from a mobile device or web based access, surgeons and their teams can view the full surgical schedule to see what has been confirmed and what is still open and make decisions accordingly. VPN helps streamline the process, cut down on communications errors, and reduce rescheduling and surgical delays." VPN also provides a very efficient, seamless forum for medical vendors, industry associations, and healthcare institutions to provide on-demand, real-time education and information to surgeons. Acting as a central, digital information source, VPN eliminates the need for surgeons and their teams to search for key information from numerous sources.

"We are currently working with device and drug vendors and associations to upload their information into digital libraries within the VPN application," said Mr. England. "Information can range from product specifications and printed protocols to live surgeries. This gives surgeons a 'one stop shop' to quickly and easily find all of their educational and product information requests. VPN also gives vendors a unique and effective way to deliver education and product messaging directly to their customers." There are more than 68,000 surgeons in the United States. The first phase of the VPN application rollout is to Neuro and Orthopedic surgeons. Additional specialties will be added over the coming months.
