Vietnam: 2006 International Software and Games Festival takes place in Hanoi
(Thai Press Reports Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Section: Regional News - The Vietnam Software Association (VINASA) and the International Data Group (IDG) co-organised the International Software and Games Festival (ISGAF 2006), one of Vietnam's largest information technology (IT) events of the year, in Hanoi from May 25-29.
The event aims to promote the development of the Vietnamese software industry in the current context of international integration and the establishment of the digital entertainment industry.
Major activities at ISGAF 2006 include an international fair and exhibition on software, games, IT and peripheral telecom devices; international seminars on software and games, including an IT forum involving the Republic of Korea, Japan and multi-national corporations; and business match-making activities.
According to VINASA General Secretary Pham Tan Cong, ISGAF 2006 takes place at a time when Vietnam's software and games industries are boosting their activities. The industries have attracted many foreign business delegations, including from Japan and the Republic of Korea. In particular, Japan considers Vietnam among its three most attractive and prestigious investment destinations.
During the seminar in Hanoi on May 25, Dr Nguyen Manh Dzung, director of the Hanoi Post and Telematics Department, said over the past years, the IT industry has played a key role in Hanoi's socio-economic development strategy. The city also mapped out a development plan for the industry in the 2006-2010 period, focusing on software development and IT services. Hanoi considers the IT industry as its strength.
During the event, VINANSA will also hold a ceremony to present Sao Khue Awards at the Hanoi Opera House on May 27 and VietGames prizes at the Giang Vo Exhibition Centre on May 28.
ISGAF 2006 is expected to draw the participation of leading IT firms from 20 countries and territories around the world. - VOV
