Viapath Implementing diagnostics.ai to Automate and Digitise Their Molecular Diagnostics

LONDON, Jan. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Viapath is one of the largest pathology service providers in the UK, serving their founding NHS Trusts, other NHS and private hospitals, and the GP community at large. Viapath is committed to the use of cutting-edge technology to ensure that diagnostics are as accurate and efficient as possible.

Following successful trials and commercial evaluations, Viapath has agreed implementation terms for diagnostics.ai's unique artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This technology automates the analysis and reporting of results, with built-in quality control, ensuring accuracy and standardisation. The innovative system removes manual steps, delivering a digitised and paperless system (tying into the NHS Five Year Forward View- Paperless 2020), as well as enabling faster turnaround, reduced risk and improved laboratory capacity.

The first laboratory implementation will be Viapath's flagship South London Specialist Virology Centre at King's College Hospital. The first systems to be automated will be the high-volume real-time PCR testing, used for a wide range of sample types and tests including respiratory, STD and gastrointestinal through the use of diagnostics.ai's cloud-based service, pcr.ai. The implementation will begin in February 2018, demonstrating Viapath's continued commitment to setting the standard for the future of pathology.

Dr Melvyn Smith, Principal Clinical Scientist, Infection Sciences and King's College Hospital's South London Specialist Virology Centre said; "Diagnostic services across the NHS are experiencing a significant growth in demand for both the volume and variety of tests performed. At Viapath we aim to maintain the quality of care and results through continued improvement of services. diagnostics.ai's innovative technology helps us to deal with laboratory pressures in a safe and efficient manner."

Dr M Sudhanva, Consultant Virologist and Clinical Director of Pathology for Viapath's laboratories at King's College Hospital said; "We are delighted to continue our work with the diagnostics.ai team. As a leading diagnostic provider Viapath strive to continuously integrate new technologies for the benefit of our patients, hospitals and staff. We have been impressed with diagnostics.ai for some time, and believe that integrating their technology will improve our efficiency and reduce the costs of maintaining stringent regulatory standards, including ISO15189."

Aron Cohen, CEO of diagnostics.ai echoed these comments, saying; "We are proud to be supplying the highly expert and professional team at Viapath. We believe strongly in the vision of automating medicine and diagnostics, and are delighted that Viapath has selected to work with us for automation and digitisation of their workflow. Our systems integrate seamlessly with existing laboratory equipment to deliver significant hands-on and cost savings, and we look forward to actualising these with Viapath."
