Verizon Wireless announces expansion of wireless network in Ohio and
West Virginia
(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Verizon Wireless , a provider of a wireless voice and data network and
a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) and Vodafone
(NYSE:VOD) v(LSE: VOD), announced on Thursday (4 September) that the
company has extended its wireless voice and data network to portions of
Jefferson county in Ohio and Hancock and Brooke counties in West
Virginia, US.
The new network coverage comprises the towns of Belvedere,
Bloomingdale, Rayland, Steubenville, Stratton and Wintersville in Ohio,
and the West Virginia towns of Bethany, Follansbee, New Manchester and
Weirton.
It also covers US Route 22 from the Harrison/Jefferson county border in
Ohio east to the West Virginia/Pennsylvania state line and State Route
7 in Ohio from Stratton south to Rayland. The extension also covers The
Franciscan University in Steubenville and Bethany College in Bethany.
The company said that this extension will provide its customers with
direct access to its wireless network. Also, customers of Verizon
Wireless in the area will have access to BroadbandAccess, the company's
broadband service, and V CAST, a multimedia service.
Verizon has reportedly invested over USD9m in this network expansion,
and has constructed 23 new cell sites throughout the area. This is
expected to provide customers with clearer reception and fewer dropped
calls.
