Verizon expands and enhances 4G LTE network in Capital District

Jul 06, 2012 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- US wireless communication services company Verizon Wireless said on Thursday that it has activated a new 4G LTE coverage in the Capital district.

The new coverage is available in Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, Altamont, Berne, Brunswick, Clifton Park, Coeymans, Cohoes, Delanson, Delmar, Galway, Knox and Westerlo.

The company said that its 4G LTE network offers speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G networks. In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, Verizon's customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

Verizon has reportedly invested over USD1.4bn on its Upstate New York network since 2000, including over USD158m in 2011, to increase coverage and capacity on behalf of its customers.

The company's 4G LTE network is currently available to two-thirds of the US population in more than 300 markets nationwide.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ)(Nasdaq: VZ) and Vodafone (LSE:VOD)(Nasdaq: VOD).
