Vallejo Council keeps light Valentine's agenda

Feb 12, 2012 (Times-Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Vallejo City Council will meet Tuesday night for a light agenda, with all scheduled decisions potentially approved with a single vote.

Meeting at 7 p.m. at Vallejo City Hall, 555 Santa Clara St., the council will look at potentially reopening discussion on its public safety subcommittee, at the request of Mayor Osby Davis.

The subcommittee was created in November to consist of two members, Davis and Councilwoman Stephanie Gomes, and review current and future city efforts to improve public safety services.

Last month, Councilwoman Erin Hannigan's suggestion that the council committee be expanded to three members -- part of a larger package of decisions relating to public safety oversight and review -- passed on a 5-2 vote.

Hannigan, who ended up voting against the proposal, as it also created a residents' fact-finding review panel, had suggested the expansion to allow the group's meeting to avoid being stymied if one member was absent.

On Tuesday, council members will not decide the issue, but is expected to simply vote on whether it would like to discuss it in the future.

In other items to be discussed on the Valentine's Day meeting, the council will consider: --Accepting $38,400 in Bay Area Toll Authority to increase Vallejo ferry service over President's Day Weekend, when the Bay Bridge will be temporarily closed to traffic --Apply for a $675,000 grant that allow the city to update its zoning code, General Plan and various downtown and Mare Island specific plans. Also, support Solano County's grant application to coordinate the county's various climate action plans, which could result in a $3,346 windfall for Vallejo.
