Burroughs has been a member of the Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice group at Nutter for several years representing individuals and corporations in criminal and civil proceedings, primarily before federal courts. Prior to joining the firm she was Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Pennsylvaia and subsequently in the District of Massachusetts.

"It's been a privilege to practice law here at Nutter with many talented colleagues," said Burroughs, "and I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to serve as a federal judge."

"We are extremely proud of Allison," said Deborah J. Manus, managing partner of Nutter. "Her friends and colleagues at Nutter have no doubt that Allison will have a long and distinguished career on the bench."

During her 16 years with the Department of Justice in Philadelphia and then Boston, Burroughs developed expertise in investigating sophisticated white collar and economic crimes, including intellectual property offenses, computer crimes, money laundering, mail and wire fraud, economic espionage, terrorism, telemarketing schemes, FCPA violations and complex RICO prosecutions. The Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys awarded Burroughs three Director's Awards for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for significant prosecutions in the areas of computer crime, international money laundering and organized crime.

Burroughs is one of several Nutter partners who have joined the judiciary, going back to firm co-founder Louis Brandeis who was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court after 35 years in practice. Other partners who have joined the judiciary include Massachusetts Superior Court Justices Robert L. Ullmann, who was appointed last year, Edward P. Leibensperger, and Patrick F. Brady.
