(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 15 September 2014 Release date- 12092014 - Atlanta -UPS (NYSE: UPS) announced the appointment of Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation, to the Board of Directors of the International Association for Volunteer Efforts (IAVE), effective immediately.



As a member of the Board, Martinez will support IAVE's mission to promote, strengthen and celebrate the development of worldwide volunteerism, which closely aligns with The UPS Foundation's focus on global volunteer efforts.

'Non-profit and NGO organizations around the world critically rely on volunteers to support their mission and help their communities,' said Martinez. 'Without volunteers, they would not be able to accomplish their goals. The IAVE is a catalyst which promotes and mobilizes the international volunteer movement and I look forward to working with them to elevate the importance of volunteerism on a global scale.' As a leader on the IAVE board, Martinez aims to share UPS's approach to global citizenship, engagement of UPSers and NGO partners in causes around the world to promote the impact of volunteer efforts by the private sector. In addition to serving on the IAVE board, Martinez will also serve as the chairman of IAVE's Global Corporate Volunteer Council (GCVC), a network for 56 multi-national leaders with the common interest of developing and activating international employee volunteer programs. In this role, Martinez will help to engage IAVE's network, share best practices used by the private sector and help build stronger partnerships to address societal issues head-on that directly benefit from volunteer efforts.


In addition to this appointment, Martinez holds volunteer leadership positions for the Points of Light Institutes' Service Council, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, the National Council of La Raza and the National Academy of Sciences.
