Update: Shasta woman acclimating for Everest climb

(Sacramento Bee, The (CA) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Apr. 20--Laurie Bagley, the Mount Shasta woman hoping to summit Mount Everest next month ("Call of the mountain," Scene, March 9), arrived in Katmandu, Nepal, on April 3 and spent the next two weeks on a trek meant to acclimate her to the region.

Starting May 1, her progress will be updated at www.nadineaiellographics.com/laurie/climb.php. That site is affiliated with a fundraising effort.

It is not known if political unrest in Nepal will affect her summit attempt.

There are two other sites to watch for news on Bagley's effort:

* www.projecthimalaya.com/dispatches, the group she's climbing with.

* www.mounteverest.net/news.php?id=1805, where an image of Bagley in Nepal was posted April 10.
