The School of Computing and Information Technology students are taking
part in Dare to be Digital, a video games development competition for
talented students, organised with Channel 4.

The four Wolverhampton students and a student from the University of
Birmingham have 10 weeks to develop a prototype video game of
commercial quality, receiving support and training from industry
experts. They are the only team from the West Midlands to have made it
through to the final.

Stuart Slater, Principal Lecturer (Digital Media & Games), said: "This
year's team is called DarkMatter Designs and their game is Boro-Toro
using Wii Technology. Players face unique and challenging puzzles that
will require logic and reasoning skills and the aim is to help the
Boros reclaim their precious artefact and solve the mystery of the
Starlight Isles.

"This is the second time one of our teams has made it to the final and
previous members of the team now work at the Serious Games Institute
and Data Design Interactive developing Wii Games, so it is a great
opportunity for students." The students taking part are Adam
Westwood, Graham Ranson, Owen Schwehr, Yves Wheeler, Matt Booton.

At the end of the competition, the prototypes will be displayed at a
talent showcasing event in Edinburgh, alongside the Edinburgh
Interactive Entertainment Festival in August. The general public as
well as industry experts get to play and vote for the games by visiting
the competition website, www.daretobedigital.com. Prizes are then

awarded to the winning teams at a special awards ceremony. ENDS
Notes to editors The team's blog can be found at

people can vote for the team on the website.
