United States : ROCKY MOUNTAIN POWER encourages customers to save energy [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Rocky Mountain Power is encouraging customers to implement energy-saving tactics with "energy thugs," the modern gadgets used around the home and office that can use a lot of power.

The Consumer Electronics Association estimates that ? of US homeowners own a smartphone. Plus tablets, Blu-ray disc players, and Internet-enabled TVs are the top purchases of the year. These electronic items continue to pull energy while plugged into a wall socket and not in use.

Kathryn Hymas, vice president of finance and energy efficiency programs for Rocky Mountain Power, said "we are all acquiring new helpful and entertaining electronic gadgets, and it's important to recognize ways to save energy. The best way to save energy is to be aware of your electricity use and make sure you use it wisely. By simply unplugging battery chargers when our mobile devices are fully charged, we can save energy and money." The utility recommends plugging devices into power strips to turn off the power, or using a "smart" power strip that cuts off power when electronics are not in use.

Other tips include unplugging battery chargers when finished charging, and using energy-saving features built into computers.

Other "energy thugs" include computers, printers and other electronic office equipment on standby; digital TV converters and cable TV equipment; DVR, VCR and DVD/Blu-ray players; video gaming systems; and other equipment with lights/indicators or digital clocks.
