UNITED STATES : DAVID JONES inks multi-million dollar deal with IBM [TendersInfo (India)]
(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) In a bid to stop falling sales, David Jones, high-end department store is setting its visions on technology-savvy clients.
David Jones on Thursday inked a multi-million dollar deal with technology giant IBM to build up a "cross-channel retail platform" that will enable buyers to browse and purchase goods online via tablets and smartphones.
The technology will moreover enable clients to lift up and return online purchases at a bricks and mortar store. Its primary phase will be started later this year, followed by a second in 2013.
Chief Paul Zahra said: David Jones believes that its future lies in its ability to offer a fully integrated multi-channel retail experience to customers. He has formerly expressed hopes to lift the store's online sales to as much as 10%.
We want our customers to be able to shop around the clock, utilising whichever channel they choose, be that in-store, on their PCs, tablets, smartphones or a combination of two or more, added Zahra. Rival Myer spent $9 million in its latest web platform, which launched in November.
IBM will moreover build up David Jones' inventory management.
