ZiXi, the award-winning provider of solutions and services that deliver broadcast-quality HDTV globally via the Internet, today announced that GL Web Television® has chosen its Video Transport Platform to deliver over-the-top (OTT) content to more than 500,000 subscribers worldwide via several mobile devices, including the Apple iPad, Android, and Amazon.com's Kindle Fire. GL Web Television, a division of the Canadian telecommunications service provider Gold Line (GL), is using ZiXi to stream more than 400 channels of high-quality, live and on demand TV programming over the public Internet, without the use of expensive content delivery networks (CDNs).

ZiXi pushes through higher bit rates so we can deliver broadcast quality video over the Internet at a fraction of the cost. Without ZiXi, we would not have been able to even launch this service, because the cost would have been prohibitive to reach such a huge audience that is growing daily.
GL Web Television offers customers access to thousands of international TV and radio channels through their computers, tablets, television sets, and mobile devices. The Company chose ZiXi's Video Transport Platform to deliver its OTT content to subscribers so they can watch an array of programming from GLWeb Television on GLArab.com and GLWiz.com more easily, without jitter, stutter, or long latency. This OTT content is available in two packages: for free via ZiXi over the public Internet through a consumer's home computer or mobile device, or as a subscription package with Gold Line's GL Box enabled with ZiXi through a home TV.
ZiXi's Video Transport Platform aggregates the live video streams from the Middle East and Africa and delivers them via the Internet to GL's headquarters in Toronto, Canada. Once there, the live streams are transcoded to multiple bitrates for adaptive streaming, served via a cluster of ZiXi- enabled content servers direct to users' display devices. The video is then streamed to hundreds of thousands of PC, TV and mobile viewers around the world over the Internet, without the need for CDN edge servers to cache content.
