United States : AT&T Joins with Pace University to Support the Next Generation of STEM Leaders [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Starting today, high school students from across the five boroughs will embark on a summer STEM adventure as part of a collaboration between PACE University and AT&T. The 20 students were selected this year to attend PACE s STEM Collaboratory Camp, a two week program during which campers are introduced to coding, robotics, Cybersecurity, Design Thinking and scientific research processes, among other skills, and then put them to work.

Over the course of the program, students will participate in a combination of science classes, workshops and field trips to AT&T s cyber security facility among other destinations. They will work closely with experts in the fields of physics and engineering. And the camp will culminate with students designing and building their own mobile phone apps.

The jobs of tomorrow will require a unique set of high tech skills, and AT&T is committed to providing opportunities for students to be exposed to these fields and build their talents, said Marissa Shorenstein, New York State President, AT&T. Through our collaboration with PACE, students will learn and apply real world skills that we hope they take back to their classrooms in the fall. We re excited to be part of such an innovative program.

This innovative camp brings some of the brightest students in New York City together at PACE to collaborate and exchange ideas that make STEM approachable, applicable, exciting and even cool, said Jonathan Hill, Associate Dean, Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, Pace University. We are excited to join with AT&T in this effort to teach these students, the future of our City and its growing STEM industries, how to create new technology, not just consume it.

The camp runs from July 21 to August 1 and will conclude with a graduation reception featuring formal presentations of the students mobile applications.

As access to skilled workers becomes increasingly vital to the U.S. economy, AT&T is stepping up its commitment to education to ensure the country is better prepared to meet global competition. Last year, AT&T announced its Aspire program would spend $350 million across the country to help more students graduate from high school ready for college and careers. In addition to supporting many vital community programs, AT&T is currently hosting a class of twenty girls at its Rockefeller Center office as part of a summer intensive program offered by Girls Who Code. And last fall, AT&T made a $1.6 million donation to the Fund for Public Schools to provide STEM enrichment to high school students, internships and other academic activities like hackathons and bootcamps.
