(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TalkTalk, the leading phone and internet services provider, has made a joint announcement with Sky on their partnership for the introduction of their individual ultra-fast broadband infrastructure.

The two partners plan to launch fibre optic internet connections in partnership with CityFibre, speed of which will be threefold of the competitor BT.

As part of the joint project, there will be launch of a futuristic, complete fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) network across the city of York to facilitate delivery of broadband speeds of 1000Mbps (1 gigabit) to customers.

The partners hope to provide connections to the customers from the next year.

BT now delivers maximum download speeds of 300Mbps at the highest tariff.

But TalkTalk and Sky have not announced monthly tariff for broadband speeds of 1000Mbps.

The three companies, all of which hold a third of the venture each, have also strategy to roll out the infrastructure in two more cities in the future. However, they are yet to select these places.

The Chief Executive of TalkTalk - Dido Harding stated, TalkTalk has a long history and proven track record of disrupting new markets, and this is the next step in that journey.

He further said, We are excited to be working in partnership with Sky and CityFibre to build this new network that will offer significantly higher speeds at much better value than is currently available.

Initially, Sky and TalkTalk will make a contribution of £5 million to the York project, with plans to pump further in the upcoming period.

Through the joint venture, the two service providers will be able to deliver high-speed broadband services to their subscribers without depending on the existing fibre optic infrastructure of BT.

The MD of Sales, Marketing & Brand Group at Sky - Stephen van Rooyen revealed, Sky has led the growth of the sector since the launch of Sky Broadband, becoming the UK s favourite provider of TV, broadband and home phone, and we see plenty of opportunity to develop our offering.

He added, This trial will help us understand the potential for cutting-edge technology to help us give customers an even better quality of service and we are looking forward to working in partnership with TalkTalk and CityFibre."
