Unique pistol from Slovakia patent-protected in Russia, USA

(Czech News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Banska Bystrica, Central Slovakia, Nov 24 (CTK) - The unique pistol K100 with a completely new system of barrel lock, invented by Slovak Jaroslav Kuracina, is patent-protected against copying not only in Europe, but also in Russia and the USA, Kuracina told CTK today. The patent has also helped Kuracina's company sign a long-term contract on the supply of 100,000 pistols with a U.S. customer. The inventor said that the production of these pistols has been successful thanks to the patent issued in the mid-1990s. The barrel innovation makes his pistol lighter and more precise, he added said. Kuracina explained that the patent-protection cannot prevent the unauthorised production of his weapon in some parts of the world, but such producers would not be allowed to sell it in Europe, Russia and the USA. China has already made plastic copies of the Slovak pistol and it is only the question of time when Chinese arms producers copy the unique barrel, Kuracina said. He decided to produce his pistol alone as neither Slovak not Czech arms producers showed interest in it. Thanks to the patent, banks were also more willing to lend him money to kick off the company. At present he makes some 1,000 pistols a month, and he plans to soon increase the output to 1,500. hol/mr/rtj
