Unicom Huasheng Aims to Sell 10mn CDMA Cellphones in 2007

(SinoCast China IT Week Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) BEIJING, July 30, SinoCast -- Unicom Huasheng Telecommunications Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly owned Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mobile phone distributor under China's second largest mobile carrier China Unicom Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050), aims to sell 10 million CDMA mobile phones in 2007.

Mainland China's CDMA mobile phone sales volume reached 7.3 million units in 2006 and is expected to increase 19 percent to 8.6 million in 2007, SINO Market Research Limited (Sino-MR) once forecasted in March 2007.

CDMA mobile phone sales volume has hit 4.77 million units during the period from January to June 2007, growing 43 percent from the same period of the previous year, according to statistics. Thus, Sino-MR, a leading market research and information agency in China, increases its previous prediction of CDMA mobile phone sales for the full year 2007 to more than 10 million units thanks to the strong sales trend in the past six months.

Established in July 2005, Unicom Huasheng has grown into a new force in the Chinese consumer mobile phone market. Last year, it hit a sales revenue of CNY 5.082 billion and a profit of CNY 102 million, a Unicom Huasheng executive disclosed.

77 new types of CDMA mobile phones were available in 2006, and Unicom Huasheng's sales revenue totaled as much as 8 million, a 30% rise from the previous year, the executive said.

The company has launched 2 million customized low-end CDMA mobile phones into the Chinese market at the beginning of this year. The low-end CDMA mobile phones, which were priced at only CNY 400, received a tumultuous welcome from customers.

In addition, the executive added, Unicom Huasheng will purchase lower-price CDMA mobile phones at CNY 300, in an effort to carry out a strategy for the development of low-end CDMA mobile phones with features of low price, long-time standby, long-time endurance, and outstanding performance. Particularly, all of the lower-price CDMA mobile phones are able to access the Internet at a speed of 153.6K.

The company also plans to customize CDMA mobile phones with more functions such as music, stock, intelligence, blood pressure testing, and cardiogram testing.

With support from China Unicom, Unicom Huasheng has inspected its service network throughout China, covering 10,000 outlets at least, in the first half of 2007 in a bid to strengthen its management and meet the needs of customers. It has owned employees of over 3,000 all over the country.
