UNICEF Appoints Singer Nancy Ajram as Regional Ambassador for the Middle

Oct 25, 2009 (Al-Bawaba via COMTEX) -- UNICEF's Regional Office for the MiddleEast and North Africa announced today the appointment of Lebanese starNancy Ajram as Regional Goodwill Ambassador.

"We are delighted to welcome Nancy Ajram to UNICEF," said Sigrid Kaag,UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa. "Goodwillambassadors help focus the world's attention on the needs of children andcan act as agents of change." Ms. Ajram has been singing from an early age and her fame and appeal nowspan the Middle East and North Africa region and beyond. She has also beena dedicated supporter of children's issues in her native Lebanon.



Ms. Ajram will help raise the profile of children's issues - particularlyin relation to early childhood development, protection from harm and youngpeople's participation.

"I have always been passionate about UNICEF's work. It is an honour for meto be given this opportunity to contribute to this work for children," Ms.Ajram said.
