Ultrapower Software: China Mobile Good for Shade

BEIJING, Nov 23, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- Beijing Ultrapower Software Co., Ltd. (SZSE: 300002) received warm welcome on the capital market after its listing. The company's board chairman Wang Ning and general manager Li Li became billionaires.

Many people do not know Ultrapower Software. But they surely know Fetion. Users of Fetion need not pay charges when they contact with friends through the service, while Ultrapower Software earn good money from the operation and maintenance of the Fetion system.

Ultrapower Software's prospectus reveals that the company obtained net profits of CNY 37.32 million, CNY 90.97 million and CNY 89.28 million respectively in 2007, 2008, and the first half of 2009 from services provided for China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941 and NYSE: CHL).

Undoubtedly, the telecommunications industry generates large profits. In China, the 3G infrastructure and terminal market alone reaches CNY 1.5 trillion. The industries bolstered by 3G commercialization are equivalent to ten Three Gorges Project.

Because of the complexity of the telecom industrial chain, carriers have to cooperate with third-party service providers in fields they are not good at or have no time to attend to, saving resources and avoiding risks.

Thus, service providers relying on telecom carriers for their survival emerges. Their pillar business is providing service for carriers. For example, Ultrapower Software, although it is engaged in offering IT operation and maintenance management solutions to government agencies and companies in the fields of telecom, finance, and energy, its largest customer is actually China Mobile.

In 2007, 2008, and the first half of 2009, Ultrapower Software's operating revenues from services provided for the leading mobile carrier accounted for 82.99%, 81.51%, and 92.02% of the total. The proportion is rising year by year.

Actually, most of the service providers had cooperation with telecom carriers previously. Like Ultrapower Software, the company's first contract was inked with the Beijing Wireless Communication Bureau, the predecessor of China Mobile Group Beijing Co., Ltd., in 1998. The latter was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Fetion system at the very beginning.

Although Ultrapower Software has been established for more than ten years, it had not obtained substantial growth until it extended reach to the telecom industry. The service provided for China Mobile boosted its status in the market. From 2004 to 2006, the company's revenues and profits doubled every year.

At first, Ultrapower Software planned to raise CNY 503 million from the listing. Actually, its IPO brought capital of CNY 1.832 billion. Calculating by its profits of 2008, the company's price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio hit 68.8 times. Investors are welcoming Fetion rather than Ultrapower Software.
