Kristen Wylie's daughters had the opportunity of a lifetime: the
first-ever sister duo to star as orphans in the national touring
production of Annie the musical. The tour would take eight months,
covering 93 venues across 40 U.S. states and parts of Canada - yet
the girls, ages 9 and 13, needed an adult chaperone to make the
journey. Kristen, a product marketing director at Kronos, was
determined to do anything to make this dream happen, yet she did
not want to give up her full-time job. Fortunately for Kristen and
her girls, her managers, team, and greater Kronos family decided
it was not a matter of if, but how, they could make this extreme
workplace flexibility experiment happen. She even received a
promotion while on the road.

Listen to Joyce
Maroney, director of The
Workforce Institute at Kronos
Incorporated, interview Kristen on The Workforce Institute
Radio podcast series about her incredible story, which was recently
featured by Working Mother magazine. The podcast covers:
-- How Kristen wore several hats - mom, chaperone, tutor, tour
guide, Kronos employee, and people manager - while working out of
hotel rooms, rest stops, and, primarily, a cramped tour bus;
-- The ways in which Kristen altered how she worked to accommodate
the needs of the touring production, her girls, her team, and her
work deliverables;
-- How open communication, creative time management, and clear
expectation setting helped her juggle a crazy and variable schedule;
-- Insight into how she managed her team both remotely and while on
the road so that it felt like she was always present;
-- Recommendations for how other high-performing working parents
could request more flexibility from their employer; and
-- Overall, how she kept her sanity and ensured her daughters
experienced all that this opportunity provided - while getting a
work promotion in the process.
