UL Expands Utility Meter Domain Testing Capabilities by Gaining European MID Accreditation for Module B Meter Evaluation and Certification

UL, a global safety science leader, announced today that the company has become one of the listed Notify Bodies (NB: 0539) in the European Measurement Instrument Directive (MID) - 2004/22/EC Annex B covering Active Electrical Energy Meters (Annex MI-003).

As of April 7, 2014, UL began offering the MID module B meter evaluation and certification service that includes examining the technical design of a measuring instrument to ensure that it meets the appropriate requirements of the EU Directive. This is important for U.S. manufacturers exporting and selling smart meters to the European market.

As a result of this recent accreditatin, UL's testing capabilities have now been extended to cover more than 70 percent of the world's requirements in utility meter domain. UL's existing testing scope services include, among others, the ANSI C12 for North America and the IEC (News - Alert) Meter Test and NMI-M6 pattern test for key markets in Asia Pacific.
