UAE sees over 120,000 registrations for .ae website domain [ICN.com Financial Markets]

(ICN.com Financial Markets Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) said the number of registrations for the .ae website domain has increased over the past six months. Registrations have topped 121,300, the telecoms regulator said on Sunday, making the UAE the first in the region for the number of local domain name registrations. "This apparent increase provides hard evidence that the prevalence of Arabic e-content is rising. The significant increment points to a wider spread of Arabic content on the web, which is one of the country`s main strategic goals," said a statement published by news agency WAM. The telecoms authority also said the surge of registrations was also accompanied by a similar rise in demand for registration on the .emirate domain. Registered companies trying to reach out to a wider targeted community will benefit from rising demand rates for registration with the national domains. The .ae has the capacity and quality to meet the users' needs and provides a significant role in keeping intellectual property rights, according to the TRA. The TRA created a sole body of regulations and registration for the .ae domain, called .aeDA to manage the national domain. The creation of .aeDA will guarantee a sustainable growth of the namespace, and will help promote competition by accrediting multiple .ae registered companies.
