Two arrested in armed robbery of Fremont video game store
FREMONT, Apr 12, 2012 (The Argus - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Two suspects were arrested Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery of a video game store at the Fremont Hub shopping center, police said.
Officers responded to a 10:22 a.m. report that two males had used a handgun to rob a GameStop store near the intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Mowry Avenue, Detective Bill Veteran said.
Witnesses said the robbers stole cash and three video game systems, then drove away, Veteran said.
Minutes later, an officer spotted a vehicle that matched a witness's description and made a traffic stop, police said.
Joseph Gomez, 27, of San Jose -- identified by police as the driver -- stopped the car and ran away, while his passenger -- a 17-year-old Oakland male -- stayed in the vehicle and was arrested, Veteran said.
Officers set up a perimeter and discovered Gomez in the flood-control canal north of Kennedy High School, authorities said. He was taken into custody without incident.
A pellet gun and the store's cash and video games were recovered, police said.
Gomez is scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges of second-degree robbery and burglary. The teen, who is not being named because he is a minor, was transported to Alameda County Juvenile Hall in San Leandro.
