Tweed New Haven Regional Airport acting manager Diane Jackson named to permanent post [New Haven Register, Conn. :: ]

(New Haven Register (CT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) June 20--NEW HAVEN -- Tweed New Haven Regional Airport Acting Manager Diane Jackson has been named to be the airport's manager on a permanent basis, officials from the airport and its contract operator announced this week.

Jackson, a Tweed employee for 13 years and assistant manager for five, has served in the acting manager position for the past six months since the departure of former manager Lori Hoffman-Soares. Jackson is the wife of East Haven Fire Chief Doug Jackson.

"She clearly earned the job," said John Harden, vice president and chief operating officer for AvPorts, the company that manages Tweed on contract for the Tweed New Haven Airport Authority.

Harden said that "hands down, she was absolutely the best candidate" in a search that include mostly internal candidates but also looked at outside candidates.

"Thank you -- you certainly will see my face around quite a bit," Jackson told Tweed Authority members and AvPorts executives at a reception in her honor following Wednesday's monthly authority meeting, at which the announcement was made.

She said she had spent the last six months in the acting manager position "building personal relationships" with the people the manager needs to work with.

Airport Authority Executive Director Tim Larson said Jackson is a good choice.

"It shouldn't be a secret to anyone" that she was the leading candidate, he said. "Diane has really been the sixth man at this airport" for some time, "and since the last airport manager left, she'd been doing the work of two people." He called her a "real good, dynamic ... face-to-face person." Jackson, whose husband joined the authority for the occasion, said the shift to the permanent manager position is like "going from watching the plan to being fully responsible for the long-term actions -- and I'm really looking forward it." She said she plans to work hard on connecting with the neighborhood community outside the airport.

"The communication thing is very, very important to me," she said.
