Treehouse announces leadership appointments to support youth in foster care

SEATTLE, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Treehouse, a Seattle-based nonprofit which has dramatically increased graduation rates for youth in foster care, today announced five leadership appointments including two on the executive team. Angela Griffin, formerly Associate Director Education Program Services, is now Chief Program Officer. Dawn Rains transitions from Chief Operating Officer to Chief Policy and Strategy Officer.

The professionals promoted to director are: Shaunessy Jones, Associate Director Community Engagement, and Lindsay von Marbod, Associate Director Development. In addition, Trent Freeman, Associate Director Marketing and Communications, joins Treehouse after 12 years at Olmstead Williams Communications in Los Angeles.

"Our leaders at Trehouse focus on the highest impact initiatives for youth in foster care as we build a world-class infrastructure to support more kids," said Janis Avery, CEO at Treehouse. "These appointments are well deserved and position us for continued growth in Washington."

Through its Graduation Success program, Treehouse's goal is for foster youth to earn their diplomas at the same rate as their peers with a plan for the future. The organization operates across King County, and expanded into Tacoma and Spokane this past school year.

The extended five-year graduation rate is up more than 30 percentage points for students in the program. Statewide, fewer than half of all youth in foster care graduate from high school. Without a diploma and a plan for their future, they experience disproportionately high rates of poverty, homelessness, incarceration, early parenting and substance abuse.
