Touch-and-go mouse [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]
(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MOST of us have a smartphone, while others may own a tablet as well. Either device will sport a touchscreen display, and that means you are familiar with a multi-touch user interface.
What happens when touch interactivity gets transported over to a mouse? Why, you end up with the Logitech Touch Mouse M600, of course, although Apple fans would pooh-pooh at this, claiming they have enjoyed such a luxury for some time with the aptly named Magic Mouse.
The Logitech Touch Mouse M600 makes actions such as swiping, scrolling and surfing second nature. It does not matter whether you are scrolling through a long article, or simply swiping through the latest Saturday night outing snapshots, Logitech's latest offering works just as well. Since it is an ambidextrous mouse, it does not matter whether you are right-handed or a southpaw. You can even reassign click areas in a jiffy, thanks to the Logitech SetPoint software, and the Logitech Flow Scroll software will offer smooth scrolling.
Logitech has set a US$69.99 (RM210) price tag on the Touch Mouse M600. www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/9480
Shoot videos with a pen
WE all carry at least one video recording tool these days, be it the smartphone or tablet (which can come in handy for possible viral video material), but you know the saying, the more the merrier! Swann has expanded the video surveillance market further with the introduction of the HD PenCam and PenCam 4GB.
Both have a miniature video camera and DVR within a pen. The HD PenCam is ideal to capture high-definition AVI videos (1280 x 720) and high resolution JPEG images, while the lesser PenCam 4GB does high resolution videos and images as well, but you are limited to 4GB of internal memory.
Either way, you can secretly record videos and these can be uploaded later onto Facebook or YouTube in a jiffy. All videos and photos are transferred to the computer via a USB cable or a memory card reader (for the HD PenCam).
The Swann HD PenCam and PenCam 4GB retail at US$99.99 and US$69.99 respectively. maxborgesagency.com/press/swann-intros-hd- pencam2-4gb-mini-video-camera-recorder
More power for gaming
PLAYING FPS titles (First Person Shooter) on a computer with a mouse and keyboard as the "combo" of choice is common, but when it comes to portable FPS gaming, the tablet's and smartphone's touchscreen interface lacks the physical feedback that buttons provide.
Tapping on the screen wildly when the action gets hot and heavy often results in some wayward shooting.
There must be a better way to do things, and here comes a controller which might just fit the bill nicely - the Xappr gun.
This particular gaming peripheral from MetalCompass will pave the way for a slew of augmented reality and shooting games to be released on the smartphone and tablet platforms, and some of the games will include the task of intercepting alien spaceships, going on a ghost-bustin' trip, fending off brain-loving zombies, warding off evil robots bent on world destruction, with the suggestion that multiplayer gaming will be thrown into the mix as well.
Pre-orders for the Xappr gun are at US$29.99 each. The gun is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows Phone operating systems. www.xapprgun.com/
Rugged shooter
OLYMPUS was the first imaging company in the world to release a rugged camera many years ago. It was not only waterproof but shockproof to a certain extent too. Well, the tradition continues and the latest top-of-the-line release comes in the form of the Olympus Tough TG-820. Not only is it waterproof up to 10m (perfect for snorkellers) but it is also shockproof against falls from a height of 2m, freeze-proof up to -10oC and can withstand weight of up to 100kg.
Being tough is one thing. How well does it perform? Olympus has a cutting-edge technology called "iHS", where a powerful image processor offers high image quality and high-speed processing. With Dual Image Stabilisation, instances of picture blur due to camera shake and subject motion are reduced dramatically, even when you are shooting Full High Definition movies. There is also a slew of filters that you can apply to both videos and photos to enhance the final outcome. Expect the Olympus Tough TG-820 to hit markets next month. www.olympus-global.com/en/news/2012a/nr120208tge.html
