Top LCD TV Brands LG Electronics and Vizio, as Well as Luminus Devices and Global Lighting Technologies Join LCD TV Association
BEAVERTON, Ore. --(Business Wire)-- The LCD TV Association, a global, not-for-profit marketing trade association chartered to inform, promote, improve and connect the entire LCD TV supply chain, today announced that leading LCD TV manufacturers LG Electronics and VIZIO, as well as LED and lighting component companies Luminus Devices and Global Lighting Technologies (GLT), have joined the LCD TV Association - signaling the ever-growing support for LCD TVs and their related supply chain.
According to DisplaySearch (1), LG Electronics was the #3 global brand in TV revenues at 9.4% in Q4'07, and improved its #2 unit share position with a half point rise to 11.8% in Q1'08. DisplaySearch findings also showed that VIZIO was ranked #3 in unit share in North America for Q4'07, and moved up to #2 in Q1'08 at 11%, and showed the strongest annual growth among the top 5 brands during Q1'08 at 103% Y/Y.
"We are pleased to add such distinguished companies to the LCD TV Association's sustaining membership roster," noted Bruce Berkoff, Chairman of the LCD TV Association. "LG Electronics is a leader in LCD TVs globally, while VIZIO has quickly risen as a top player in the important U.S. market. Luminus and GLT have teamed up to produce a unique RGB, edge-lit backlighting solution using Luminus' PhlatLight(R) LED and GLT's MicroLens(TM) light guide technologies, and are paving the way for ultra thin and low cost LED backlighting. The PhlatLight Backlight Unit was recently recognized by the SID organization as winner of the 2008 Gold Display Component of the Year award. The insight and knowledge which all of these new members bring to the table will prove quite valuable to our organization in helping to better 'inform, promote, improve and connect' the entire supply chain and consumers about the benefits of LCD TVs."
"As we at LG value consumer insights most in product development and continue to grow our worldwide presence as a leader in the LCD TV space, we look forward to working with the LCD TV Association to better inform and promote the entire LCD TV industry supply chain about LG LCD TVs," noted Havis Kwon, Executive Vice-President, LCD TV Divisions, Digital Display Company at LG Electronics Inc.
Berkoff added, "With LCD TV sales on the rise, it becomes increasingly important to educate consumers on the benefits of LCD TVs over other flat panel technologies as well as to help improve these great products, so that consumers are well-informed about the many advantages of LCD TVs as well as getting better value ever year."
