Time Warner customers lose cable service before big game
Jan 10, 2009 (The Charlotte Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Minutes before one of the biggest games of the season for the Carolina Panthers, Time Warner Cable customers in one part of Charlotte were left with nothing but snow on their TV screens.
An automated recording at the cable company's customer service line said there was an outage in the northeast part of uptown Charlotte -- essentially fourth ward -- but there were reports of outages as far east as the Hickory Grove neighborhood. It's unclear what caused the outage or how many customers were without service.
If they're desperate, they can root around in the attic for the UHF antenna. The game is being broadcast on Fox, which is broadcast channel 18 in Charlotte and surrounding areas.
A spokeswoman with the cable company didn't immediately return calls about the outage. Stay tuned to charlotteobserver.com for updates.
Carla Jones, who lives on the Plaza near Milford said her cable went out around 7:30 p.m., as she was getting ready to watch the Panthers game. "Now I guess I've got to wait until it comes back on," she said dejectedly, midway through the second quarter. She said she called Time Warner Cable and someone there told her it could be as late as midnight before the cable comes back on.
Jessica Hunsinger's husband went to watch the game at Bank of America stadium, and she stayed home with their child. The cable went out around 6, but she said it came back on about 90 minutes later. "It actually just came on as the Titans were losing," she said.
