Thousands of San Franciscans Will Gather at Ghirardelli Square to #GoDark for Earth Hour

What: Ghirardelli is turning off the lights of the iconic sign in Ghirardelli Square and hosting a free local event to celebrate Earth Hour, a global movement developed by the World Wildlife Fund that encourages people to turn off non-essential lights to raise awareness for climate change.

The iconic Ghirardelli Square sign will "Go Dark" at exactly 8:30 p.m. PT.

#GoDark will include two sessions of outdoor candlelit yoga led by Athleta, blind tastings of Ghirardelli Intense Dark chocolate, a luminary labyrinth and live acoustic music. The event already has more than 5,000 RSVPs via its Facebook event page.



Ghirardelli Square merchants - Wattle Creek Winery, Kara's Cupcakes and Bulldog Coffee - will also be joining in on the celebrations offering a variety of food and beverages for purchase.

Why: To raise local awareness for Earth Hour, which takes place every year on March 28 from 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. local time and savor the dark by enjoying Ghirardelli's Intense Dark chocolate.


When: Saturday, March 28, 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. | Yoga will take place from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. & 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. by reservation only.
