Thomson Scientific Renews Aureka License for Vivisimo's Search Clustering Technology
PITTSBURGH --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 3, 2005 -- Vivisimo (http://Vivisimo.com), the creator of innovative software to access and cluster the world's information for better search and discovery, today announced that Thomson Scientific, a business of The Thomson Corporation, has renewed its license of Vivisimo's award-winning Clustering Engine for use with Aureka(R) until the end of 2007. The Clustering Engine, cornerstone of the Vivisimo Velocity suite of enterprise search products, automatically organizes long lists of search results into folders, or clusters, of documents having similar frequently-occurring words or phrases, for an improved user experience and faster, more precise navigation through Aureka search results.
Aureka is part of the MicroPatent family of products--the world's leading source for online patent and trademark information and now a Thomson Scientific solution, producing the world's largest commercial collection of searchable full-text and front-page patent information, with over 50 million records from 72 countries, as well as sophisticated visualization tools, file histories, trademark data, professional research services and consulting engagements. Vivisimo's Clustering Engine enables Aureka users exploring its vast patent collection to view large result sets neatly organized into a topical hierarchy, making it easier and faster to pinpoint the information most relevant to them.
"We are pleased to extend our partnership with Vivisimo. Since we first deployed Vivisimo's Clustering Engine four years ago, we have consistently received positive feedback from users who say that clustered results improve their ability to find and access the patent information they need, thus cutting down their research time," said Larry Cady, vice president corporate markets product management at Thomson Scientific.
"Information intensive organizations are looking for ways to leverage existing search investments while improving users' ability to sort through large information repositories and numerous content sources to find that needle in the haystack," said Philippe Lequerre, senior director of OEM and strategic alliances at Vivisimo, Inc. "The Thomson Scientific renewal is a clear indication of the value their customers have experienced from clustered search results. Search applications that do not present organized results maximizing speed, relevancy and user-friendliness are no longer competitive."
Vivisimo's award-winning Clustering Engine is part of the Vivisimo Velocity Enterprise Search Suite, the only enterprise software that combines search, federated search and dynamic clustering. Hundreds of organizations worldwide use the Clustering Engine as part of their Velocity deployments or to overlay and supercharge their existing enterprise search investments.
