Thailand: Auto and electronics sectors lead rise in industrial production index

(Thai Press Reports Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Section: Economy - The industrial production index in the first quarter expanded 8.2 per cent year on year and 2.4 per cent from the previous quarter, led by the automobile and electronics sectors, according to the Industrial Economics Office, The Nation reports.



"In the quarter, vehicle production increased 20.80 per cent year on year, mostly because of the manufacture of one-tonne pickup trucks," said Atchaka Siboonruang Brimble, director of the office.

The top three export items - computers and accessories, automobiles and parts, and integrated circuit boards - remain industrial products, of which the combined export value was US$22.9 billion (Bt875 billion) or 77.6 per cent of total export income.



Minor launches aircraft venture Minor Corporation Plc's board of directors resolved on May 29 to establish an affiliate, Minor Aircraft Co Ltd.

Minor will hold a 49 per cent stake in the new company, which will be registered with capital of Bt100,000, it said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

Minor Aircraft will offer aviation and transport services.

Mivan to build 50,000 homes Mivan (Thailand) Ltd has set up a joint venture firm with Syntec Construction Plc to build 50,000 low-income housing units worth Bt300 million for the National Housing Authority.
