Texas Multicore Technologies Announces Major Release of Auto-Parallelizing SequenceL

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Multicore Technologies (TMT) today announced the company has released a major new version of its SequenceL functional programming language and auto-parallelizing compiler and tool set.

TMT provides computer programming tools and services to modernize software to run on multicore computing platforms with optimal performance and portability. SequenceL™ is a compact, powerful functional programming language and auto-parallelizing compiler that quickly and easily converts algorithms to robust, massively parallel code. TMT has worked closely with its strategic platform partners Intel, AMD, Dell, HPE, IBM, and ARM to do the hard, low-level work of building low-level platform optimizations in its tools so the broad base of software developers, engineers, and scientists don't have to.

"The need to exploit parallelism in software is growing rapidly. Why? Because the problems we need to solve at speed are growing both in respect of data volumes and complexity. I'm alking about applications in the sphere of advanced analytics/AI/machine learning/cognitive computing," said Robin Bloor, Chief Analyst at The Bloor Group. "Tools that can make parallel software easier to construct, efficient and faster in operation are gold dust - especially for the domain experts. An automated approach to software parallelism has become a necessity. As the processor vendors continue to add cores to their products, they are making it increasingly difficult, if not impossible, for anyone to program them effectively."

Important features in SequenceL v3.0 include:

  • Addition of a free Community Edition available for immediate download. The commercial version is now named Professional Edition and a free trial remains available for download.
  • Significant performance enhancements, including:
    • Improved compiler optimizations for parallel code
    • Improved vectorization in generated code
    • Compatibility with standard BLAS and LAPACK libraries
    • New FFT library based on FFTW
  • Online documentation and tutorials.
  • Support for all popular compute platforms, including x86 (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux), POWER (Linux), and ARM (Linux).

"Our goal has always been to enable all people developing software – not just a gifted few "parallel ninjas" with a lot of time and deep expertise – to quickly and easily unleash the full performance potential of multicore platforms," said Doug Norton, Chief Marketing Officer of TMT. "The new free Community Edition and support for all popular platforms is a major step to deliver on this goal, building on the successes we have had with our large enterprise customers."
