Telstra told to cap ADSL prices or risk losing NBN deal
Feb 14, 2012 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has announced that it will place a major condition on approval of the deal struck between Telstra and NBN Co, worth $A11bn-plus. The telco is looking to vend cabling infrastructure into the new national broadband network being rolled out by the NBN Co entity, and a structural separation of Telstra is part of the plans. However, the ACCC will only allow this if Telstra accepts a cap on wholesale broadband prices that could mean an earnings reduction of $A55m per annum.
