Telecommunications Services in Sultanate/ Statistics [Oman News Agency]


(Oman News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)              Muscat, Apr 19 (ONA) ---- Subscribers of the fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at (353,953) at the end of February 2014 against (351,411) at the end of December 2013, constituting a rise by (0.7%).     Statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) pointed out that subscribers of billed fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at (273,858) at the end of February 2014 against (271,400) subscribers at the end of 2013. Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at (26,010) against (25,829) at the end of 2013. The number of public phones all over the Sultanate stood at (6,801). The number of integrated services digital networks (ISDN) stood at (45,464) while the number of fixed wireless stood at (1,820).      The statistics also pointed out that the number of fixed telephone lines subscribers in the Governorate of Muscat stood at (170,656) by the end of February 2014, followed by the Governorate of Dhofar (26,902), the Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah (22,031), the Governorate of South Al Batinah (20,360), the Governorate of North Al Batinah (20,321), the Governorate of North A'Sharqiyah (14,911), the Governorate of A'Dhahirah (8,360), the Governorate of Al Buraimi (7,208), the Governorate of South A'Sharqiyah (4,896), the Governorate of Musandam (3,402) and finally the Governorate of Al Wusta (821).      Subscribers of billed and pre-paid GSM service stood at (5,664,453) at the end of February 2014 compared to (5,617,426) by the end of 2013, constituting a rise by (0.8%).     Subscribers of billed GSM service stood at (499,910) by the end of February 2014 against (495,703) during 2013, constituting a rise by (0.8%).    Subscribers of pre-paid GSM service rose by (0.8%) to (5,164,543) against (5,121,723) by the end of 2013.    The statistics also pointed out that the total subscribers of internet at the end of February 2014 stood at (164,757) compared to (158,678) subscribers at the end of 2013, constituting a rise by (3.8%).    The number of subscribers of phone internet service at the end of February 2014 stood at (4,121) compared to (4,388) during 2013, a decline by (6.1%), which included subscribers of billed service (3,927) and subscribers of pre-paid cards (194).    Subscribers of fixed broadband service stood at (160,636) at the end of January 2014 compared to (154,290) at the end of 2013.     The number of active subscribers of mobile broadband stood at (2,474,544) at the end of February 2014 compared to (2,443,296) at the end of 2013.    The number of leased internet lines subscribers stood at (3,644) as at the end of February 2014 compared to (3,647) in 2013.---- Ends/AH/KH (c) 2014 (C) .
