Telecom sector's benevolence to serve flood affectees


(Balochistan Times (Pakistan) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Telecom operators, as part of their corporate responsibilities, have reached out flood affectees in different parts of the country by providing relief goods and settingup medical camps.



Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has mobilized various resources in extending support to local administrations for providing humanitarian assistance to affected people.

The Company has already deployed ten fully equipped medical camps for providing onspot medical care in the worst hit areas of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhang, Faisalabad, Multan, Narowal, Sialkot, Sahiwal and Chiniot.


Medicines worth around Rs 2.5 million have been provided to the affected families. Additional support through delivery of necessary food items and relief goods, worth Rs 5.5 million have also been distributed in Gujranwala and Jhang districts.

The relief activities are being undertaken by PTCL volunteer teams, who are coordinating and carrying out these activities in liaison with local authorities.

Moreover, Ufone, a mobile operator has provided life jackets to Pakistan Navy at Navy Flood Camp, Sukkur for emergency response and help them in their rescue efforts.

Ufone extends its timely support with the objective to facilitate the residents of Sindh.

Similarly, Mobilink Foundation has provided food rations to 500 flood affected families in Jhang district with packages that included perishable food items and bottled water.

The collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for ensuring food assistance to flood affectees marks the first phase of relief operations that Mobilink Foundation aims at carrying out in other parts of the country.

The relief programme is designed to counter the impact of flood related devastation caused by the torrential rains and canal breaches.

During the first leg Mobilink Foundation will provide ready to eat food supplies for the affectees, who have lost their livelihood and assets during the catastrophe and are in need of edible items.

The Relief Caravans are handing over relief packs amongst the affectees in Athara Hazari, Daragai Shah, Wassu and other surrounding areas of Jhang.
