Telcordia Hosts IEEE "Engineering Your Future" Industry Day on February 5
PISCATAWAY, NJ, Jan 12, 2009 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) --
Telcordia (www.telcordia.com), a leading global provider of
telecommunications network software and services for IP, wireline,
wireless and cable, today announced that it is hosting a day-long
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) industry day
on February 5, 2009. The theme of the event is "Engineering Your
Future," and will focus on how communications and green technologies
are changing the way companies conduct their business. This event is
being sponsored by IEEE Region 1.
Hosting the event is a natural fit for Telcordia given the company's
core mission to identify the critical issues of today and anticipate
the challenges of tomorrow in information and communications
technologies. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with each
other and enjoy technical tutorials on topics such as wireless trends
in manufacturing, next-generation networks, green technologies,
unified communications technology and digital television. Featured
speakers will include senior executives from the nation's leading
communications companies as well as high-profile university educators
from Columbia University and Rutgers University.
"In light of rapidly advancing technologies and globalization,
industry professionals must remain at the forefront of communications
thought leadership, and this event is designed to cover all the
'need-to-know' issues," said Dr. Adam Drobot, chief technology officer
and president, Advanced Technology Solutions, Telcordia.
Dr. Drobot will be one of the featured speakers and will discuss how
Telcordia brings together applied research, consulting and
engineering capabilities to help communications service providers,
commercial enterprises and government agencies envision, create,
deploy and profit from the future of communications. Drobot will
discuss Telcordia's process for indentifying technology gaps and
inventing new technologies for real world business challenges.
In addition to Dr. Drobot, other featured speakers include: Peter
Sobel, Director, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships, IEEE national
headquarters; Ibrahim Gedeon, chief technology officer, Telus; Prof.
Henning Schulzrinne, chair, Computer Science Department, Columbia
University; Dr. John A. Kosinski, principal deputy for technology,
CERDEC I2WD; Harvey Waxman, vice president, Architecture, Avaya, CTO
Organization; Rich Chernock, chief technology officer, Triveni
Digital; Dr. Tilak Agerwala, vice president, Systems, IBM; Prof.
Dipankar Raychaudhuri, director, WINLAB, Rutgers University; and
Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula, who currently serves as the deputy
speaker of the NJ assembly will also address the attendees.
"As IEEE celebrates its 125th anniversary, the organization continues
to demonstrate value to its members through events like this that
prepare attendees to 'engineer their future' through networking and
high-quality educational programming," said Dr. T. K. Srinivas,
program chair of the event; chair of the IEEE Jersey Coast Section;
and director, Avaya CTO Organization. "Telcordia continues to be a
terrific partner in supporting IEEE's initiatives to advance its
members' learning and professional development."
"The IEEE and the industry can benefit from each other's resources
and this first-of-its-kind industry day will further strengthen the
collaboration between the IEEE and industry partners and will continue
throughout IEEE Region 1, which spans the Northeast US," said
Ashutosh Dutta, Senior Scientist, Advanced Technology Solutions,
Telcordia, who currently serves as the IEEE Region 1 Industry
Relation Chair, and Chair of IEEE Princeton/Central Jersey Section.
The "Engineering Your Future" event will be held at Telcordia's
headquarters, 1 Telcordia Drive, Piscataway, NJ, and is free for IEEE
members to attend. (Non-members pay a nominal fee that can be applied
toward membership.) There will be members from IEEE's Membership
Geographic Activities during the event to answer questions related to
IEEE and other membership benefits. The event will begin at 8:00am
and conclude with a networking session from 5:00-6:00pm. Details of
the program and registration can be found at:
