Packet networks provider Tekelec agreed to resell Convergin's Accolade platform as part of Tekelec's Real Convergence Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) offering. Convergin is an Israel-based provider of core wireless convergence servers.

According to the companies' news release, "the combination of Convergin's core Wireless Convergence Server (WCS), Accolade, and Tekelec's market-leading family of carrier-grade switching products-the Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solution and the Tekelec 3000 Media Gateway Controller, creates a powerful mobile switching solution with comprehensive capabilities in mobile and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) domains."

"We were looking for a market-ready complement to our Real Convergence IMS portfolio," said Tricia Hosek, president and general manager of the Tekelec Switching Solutions Group. "Convergin provides us with an extremely comprehensive solution whose robust core approach matches our strategy for network evolution."

The agreement will also allow Convergin to integrate Accolade with the Tekelec 6000Voice over IP (VoIP) Application Server to offer SIP-based services across fixed and mobile networks.

"The migration path to IMS requires core convergence solutions. Tekelec is the dominant player in the next-generation network evolution, and we are proud to participate in the evolution with them," noted Ayal Itzkovitz, CEO for Convergin.

Calabasas, CA-based Tekelec made news back in April when it was selected by Rockwell Collins to provide VoIP capabilities for the U.S. Navy’s fleet of E-6B strategic air command aircraft to link critical communications to the U.S. strategic forces.

The new agreement called for the Tekelec 6000, a hosted IP telephony app server, to provide the core VoIP call control function to the Intercommunications System (ICS) being developed by Rockwell Collins for upgrades to the aircraft’s primary missions systems. VoIP call control enables applications such as conferencing and radio channel monitoring to allow aircraft personnel to communicate quickly and securely with strategic command centers.
