Technavio Announces Top Seven Vendors in the Global Data Center Rack PDU Market Until 2020

Technavio has announced the top seven leading global data center rack power-distribution-unit (PDU) market vendors in their latest research report. This research report also lists 15 other prominent vendors who are expected to gain market shares over the forecast period.

To identify the top vendors, Technavio's market research analysts have considered the top contributors to the overall revenue of this market. To calculate the market size, the report considers the revenue generated from the sales of data center rack PDUs worldwide. The report also presents a breakdown of market shares with forecasts for intelligent-PDUs and non-intelligent PDUs until 2020 and also highlights emerging trends that will be witnessed during the forecast period. The use of alternating phased power is one of the trends mention in the report.

"Through the use of alternating phased power, wiring of PDUs in data centers is simplified, as the need for power cords is eliminated completely. Therefore, the task of plugging servers from the bottom to the top of the rack is minimized by the deployment of this architecture. Alternating phased power also provides other benefits such as better airflow, improved load balancing, and shortened cabling," said Technavio's senior industry analyst for data centers research, Rakesh Kumar Panda.

"Over the next four years, most enterprises around the world are expected to establish green data centers. Therefore, it will soon become imperative for rack PDU product manufacturers to invest in rack PDU designs that will help save power and increase the efficiency of data centers," added Rakesh.

Seven leading players of the data center rack PDU market:

CyberPower Systems

CyberPower Systems was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Minnesota, US. They design and manufacture power management solutions and systems, offering products such as UPS, generator or utility AC power to multiple devices, servers, and network or telecom equipment.

Their metered and switched PDU products include LCD panels for local monitoring of the PDUs for load management. LCD displays show the input voltages for identifying issues with the input power. Their displays also show the power in Watts and the IP address of the network interface.

Eaton (News - Alert)

Eaton was established in 1911 and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. The company provides power management services to end-markets that include agriculture and forestry, aviation, community infrastructure, construction, data centers, energy, government and military, healthcare, oil and gas, and residential sectors. As of December 2014, they had around 102,227 employees with a wide network of distributors in more than 175 countries.

The Eaton PDU incorporates energy management systems for effective power management and monitoring. Power Xpert Gateway (News - Alert) PDP provides a web-enabled interface for power quality status an response to power outage or failure. The Eaton ePDU G3 platform also features third-generation technology that provides a power distribution unit with basic, metered input, and managed PDU types.

Emerson Network Power

Emerson Network Power is headquartered in Ohio, US. The company provides critical infrastructure technologies and life cycle services for information and communications technology systems. They operate as a subsidiary of Emerson Electric Company. Its key partners include IBM and Cisco.

They manufacture adaptive racks, managed racks, and basic rack PDUs. Emerson products are available in single-phase and three-phase models with controls at the equipment level. Emerson Network Power PDUs assist in reducing time and operational cost. The PDUs are designed for higher availability, enhancing energy efficiency, and improving business resiliency.

Raritan (News - Alert)

Raritan was founded in 1985, with headquarters in New Jersey, US. They provide power management solutions, infrastructure management, and serial solutions for data centers. Their hardware and software solutions include a range of intelligent rack PDUs, DCIM software, and KVM-over-IP and Serial-over-IP products.

Power solutions provided by Raritan increase energy efficiency, improve reliability, and raise productivity. Their intelligent PDUs have features such as accurate rack metering, circuit breaker monitoring, advanced alerts, high-resolution color display, compact design, sampling, buffering, and field-replaceable controllers. Intelligent PDUs consume 67% less energy (compared to conventional PDUs), and have in-built temperature sensors.

Schneider Electric

Schneider Electric was founded in 1836 and is headquartered in Rueil-Malmaison, France. The company develops and markets electrical products and integral solutions for energy management.

Schneider Electric entered the data center rack PDU market by acquiring APC (News - Alert). Formerly known as American Power Conversion in 2011. Their effective design of APC PDUs improves the management and efficiency of data centers. APC PDUs enable real-time remote load monitoring and the management of power-up or power-down sequencing of the connected equipment.

Server Technology

Server Technology was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Nevada, US. They provide power solutions for labs, data centers, and telecommunications operations. It also offers cabinet power distribution units, power monitoring and measurement solutions, and rack power management and distribution units. Some of their key server technology customers include Yahoo, Amazon, IBM, Citrix, Microsoft, Sage, Oracle, Intel, Thomson (News - Alert) Reuters, and Disney.

Server Technology is a pure-play vendor in the data center rack PDU market. They manufacture basic, metered, switched, and smart PDUs along with smart and switched POPS. Each product has features such as POPM, branch circuit protection, input current and environmental monitoring, expansion module, and individual outlet control.
