(BNamericas.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Mexican incumbent telecommunications provider Telmex (NYSE: TMX) and US chipmaker Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) aim to donate 5,000 computers to schools this year, in addition to selling PCs at cut down prices and training 400,000 teachers in IT skills, local daily El Financiero reported.



The computers will be sold for 11,000 pesos (US$100) and will be sold 20% cheaper if they include internet connection.

Microsoft (Nadsaq: MSFT) is collaborating with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to create a fund for boosting business and technology projects for young people, newswire EFE reported.

The fund will provide direct financing and "represents a huge opportunity to young people to contribute to the economy," according to Rodolfo Fucher, Microsoft's director for social investments in Latin America.

German IT hardware company Rittal plans to invest 10mn reais (US$4.6mn) in the Brazilian market by 2008, magazine TI Inside reported.

Rittal manufactures industrial enclosures, electronic packaging, system climate control, IT solutions and communications systems.

In 2005, 20% of production from the company's Brazil plant was for export mainly to Argentina and Chile.

US energy control systems supplier Tripp Lite has begun a tour of Mexico with distributors CT Internacional, Sistemas Aplicados de la Conurbacin del Pnuco and Synnex, Infochannel reported.

CT Capacita, which recently became a Tripp Lite distributor, will make presentations on energy saving in the states of Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Baja California Norte, Sonora, Sinaloa, Guanajuato, Michoacn, Quertaro, San Luis Potos and Jalisco.

On the other hand, Sistemas Aplicados de la Conurbacin del Pnuco and US telecoms supplier Avaya (Nasdaq: AV) will help promote the brand in the cities of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and San Luis Potos.
