TDLC requests information on unbundling, VoIP
(BNamericas.com Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Chile's antimonopoly tribunal TDLC has asked the telecoms regulator Subtel to elaborate on the current status of network unbundling and IP telephony regulations, local newspaper Diario Financiero reported.
There are 15 items Subtel needs to clarify for the TDLC to provide more background information for arbitration of a dispute between Chilean IP telephony provider Voissnet and incumbent telco Telefnica CTC Chile (NYSE: CTC).
In January 2005, Voissnet asked the TDLC to investigate alleged anticompetitive practices on the part of CTC. At that time, Voissnet claimed CTC was preventing its broadband users, as well as ISPs that rent its networks, from accessing applications and technologies such as IP telephony that can compete with other CTC business areas.
The TDLC set January 13 as the final date for Subtel to deliver its report, in which the regulator must specify what regulations must be modified so that national and foreign operators can provide IP telephony services.
