Taqua Showcases Small Cell Core and NLOS Wireless Backhaul at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona
BARCELONA, Spain --(Business Wire)--
Taqua (News - Alert)®, LLC, a leading supplier of convergence switching and
small cell deployment solutions, will showcase its small cell core and
NLOS wireless backhaul solutions in Hall 2, Booth 2A06 at the Mobile
World Congress in Barcelona.
Smartphones and other data-intensive mobile device usage in both the
consumer and enterprise markets continue to provide network capacity
challenges for operators. The mobile industry is looking to small cell
deployments as a principal solution for addressing network capacity
challenges, data off-load requirements, and in-building coverage issues.
Taqua is addressing both the indoor and outdoor small cell market with a
small cell convergence core that extends macro network features and
functions to small cell-served subscribers, and its non-line-of-sight
(NLOS) wireless backhaul for outdoor small cell deployment.
Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) Backhaul
The Taqua W-Series™ NLOS Wireless Backhaul System provides flexible,
high capacity backhaul for small cell sites (picocells). Each small cell
site is connected to the Taqua Remote Module via a standard Ethernet
connection. Two to four Remote Modules connect via a shared NLOS
wireless link to a Taqua Hub Module. The Hub connects via wired Ethernet
to the carrier's existing network and can be located at a macro site or
anywhere connectivity is available.
Taqua's W-Series of NLOS products are tier 1 field tested and available
for deployment. In field testing, the system has provided more than 70
Mbps bandwidth. Taqua's planned roadmap is to increase bandwidth up to
hundreds of Mbps when networks require it. Hundreds of clusters can be
deployed as a "network" and managed by a single user interface.
The W-Series backhaul products utilize underused, inexpensive licensed
TDD spectrum. The Taqua W-Series is used in conjunction with any small
cell site - 3G and 4G picocells and WiFi (News - Alert) hotspots. The W-Series is easy
to install with flexible deployment options for wall or pole mounting on
light or utility poles. Taqua uses innovative techniques to maximize
throughput within urban and suburban environments to ultimately help
deliver a true wireless broadband experience to the wireless operator's
end-user subscribers.
Small Cell Core
At the heart of Taqua's Small Cell Core is the TCS6100™ Convergence (News - Alert)
Server (TCS6100). The TCS6100 is a SIP-based mobile convergence
application server that integrates with existing mobile core elements,
including the HLR, SMSC, and MSC (News - Alert). The TCS6100 extends macro network
features and functions to small cell-served subscribers while providing
seamless femto to macro handoff. It leverages incumbent core network
elements enabling mobile operators to deploy new small cell offerings
while preserving existing systems and practices. It also allows
operators to deliver a consistent user experience and implement unified
service plans across small cells and macro networks. The TCS6100
delivers voice, messaging, and data convergence while providing
supplementary, regulatory, and emergency services. The TCS6100 is a
3GPP2 compliant SIP-based architecture supporting both CDMA and UMTS,
which allows for easier core network integration while providing a
carrier grade platform that is highly scalable and future proofed for 4G
including VoLTE.
The solution can be deployed in pre-IMS and IMS networks. In pre-IMS
networks, the TCS6100 is an application server operating as a
SIP-MSC/IWF, while in IMS networks it operates as a SIP Multimedia
Telephony Application Server (MMTEL).
In addition to the TCS6100, Taqua's small cell core network is comprised
of the T7100™ Multimedia Controller, and the T7000®
Intelligent Switching System with mobile interface cards; as well as an
integrated session border controller and security gateway from Acme
Packet. The T7100 provides the media gateway controller and MRF
functionality, while the T7000 provides all the media gateway control
functionality. As part of its small cell core solution, Taqua integrates
and resells Acme Packet's (News - Alert) Net-Net 4500 to provide all encrypted access,
core network security and other SIP session control functions for small
cells.
